Juliet is a clinical epidemiologist, with a background in Dental Surgery. Over the past 9 years, she has worked with the Uganda Virus Research Institute, under the National HIV Drug resistance secretariat, supporting national surveys that evaluate the emergence of HIV drug resistance both at population and at programmatic level. She has designed, conducted and analyzed several national surveys evaluating different populations both initiating and receiving antiretroviral therapy, including infants, children, adolescents and adults for antimicrobial resistance.  This work has informed the national ART programming and specifically contributed to change of national ART guidelines for patient management.

Juliet will be undertaking her PhD in Epidemiology at the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University. She intends to evaluate the effect of periodontal therapy on the clinical, microbiological and immunological outcomes in HIV-Infected patients with chronic periodontitis receiving antiretroviral therapy in Uganda. Having observed that HIV infection has been found to be associated with more severe and frequent refractory chronic periodontitis despite the use of antiretroviral therapy, she hopes that this work will contribute to integration of periodontal disease management in clinical care of HIV-infected individuals.
