EACCR Hosts Research Management Training AT UVRI

The East Africa Consortium for Clinical Research (EACCR) hosted a 3-day hybrid training workshop in research management. The hybrid workshop was organized by the Uganda Virus Research Institute from the 27th to the 29th of June 2023. This attracted 35 physical participants from Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda Tanzania, and Uganda.

Priority was given to applicants from institutions that had not participated in similar training before who were staff from institutions that make up the EACCR3 consortium. Participants included Study Coordinators, Trials & Study Managers, Investigators, Accounts Staff, and Administrators.

Out of the 500 interested online applications, 100 participants managed to attend the online event daily, and these came from as far as Jamaica and Lesotho. This was a training one of a kind that made everyday duties simpler and easy to reflect and relate with as participants shared different experiences.

The training covered practical skills in grant negotiation, stakeholder analysis and identification, uptake, and dissemination of research findings, and monitoring and evaluation at both the proposal development and post-proposal stages. The training took place on a hybrid basis to allow real-time sharing of knowledge and engagement from distant participants.

This regional training was organized by the EACCR3 project and funded by the European Union’s EDCTP2 Programme. The objective was to deliver hands-on practical training in the management of research projects with the aim of exposing participants to grant writing, monitoring and evaluation, and publication.

Presenters included Dr Bernard Kikaire, Eric Okeck, Dr Benjamin Watyaba, Emily Nyanzi, Dr Kristine Amito, Dr Jonathan, Kayondo, Dr Tom Lutalo, Dennis Ssesanga, Dr Ann Kapaata, Ms Deborah Alibu and Dr Dorothy Aibu.
