Deborah Alibu is supporting the research management team at the UVRI  with financial management and oversight of grants. She hold an ACCA with audit and accounting experience for over 15 years at a managerial level, having started out with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and later awarded a post graduate diploma in business management.

Carried out research on cost accounting methods and practices in the transport sector and has been involved in the formulation of the recent International standard on good financial grants practice spearheaded by the African Academy of Sciences. The standard is intended to be rolled out to the global grants community of stakeholders in science technology and innovation

Deborah’s most recent role was the finance manager for the USG funded NUPITA/ TA-NPI at John Snow Inc office in Kampala, Uganda. Prior experience with PEPFAR and CDC funded health programmes in the Uganda health sector, promoted her to a leading role in financial management and good accounting practice in handling development funds at the Mildmay HIV care centre. Basing on her previous experience in compliance audits for multilateral donor agreements including the USAID (World Learning, Inc) under Coopers and Lybrand Accountants, she currently volunteers financial management advice to governance Boards of a couple of NGOs working to improve access to health services by all Ugandans and enhancing social responsibility through education.
