COVID-19 Uganda Update
One (1) new case was confirmed in Uganda for COVID-19 out of the 1,114 samples tested at the Uganda Virus Research Instiute. This confirmed new COVID-19 case is a 27-year-old Kenyan truck driver who arrived in Uganda through the Malaba border. Efforts are underway to track him and evacuate him back to Kenya. A detailed press release will be issued tomorrow morning from Ministry of Health Uganda, with details and an update on this.
Out of the 1,464 samples tested in Uganda today, 1114 samples were from truck drivers at border points and 350 samples were from individuals in quarantine centers and contacts. Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Uganda still remains at 55 with no deaths from COVID-19, Kenya at 262, Tanzania at 147, Burundi at 6, Rwanda at 144, Democratic republic of Congo at 327, South Sudan at 4 and the whole of the Africa continent at 21,105 in total extracted from the africanarguments website as of 19 April 2020.
Today, 6 patients were discharged from Mulago National Specialised Hospital after testing negative twice for COVID-19. This brings the total covid-19 recoveries now to 28 in Uganda.
Remember to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Also, continue to follow the National and World Health Organisation guidelines on social distancing, keep at least 4 meters from the individual nearest to you.
