Dr. Mfinanga is a medical doctor and epidemiologist with a degree in medicine and a Ph.D. in medical epidemiology, both of which focus on tuberculosis and HIV. He is the Director and Chief Research Scientist for the NIMR Muhimbili Centre and holds several academic positions, including honorary professor of global health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and adjunct professor at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology.
A team from Uganda Virus Research Instutute (UVRI) led by Dr Benjamin Watyaba, Elinor Wanyama and Rose Naluwuge organized a one-day face-to-face and interactive protocol training on 20th December 2022 for the CCP Nested Study staff at Uganda Virus Research Institute that was attended by about 18 participants from both Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital and Uganda Virus Research Institute.
To tackle disease we need evidence to be generated through every type of health research study. The Global Health Network conference aimed to bring together health research teams, organisations, health-workers, policy makers and practitioners to explore together how health research can be embedded into every healthcare setting. The conference took place at the University of Cape town iN South Africa from 24-25th November, 2022.
Uganda Virus Research Institute(UVRI) commemorated the International HIV/AIDS and Candle-light day on the 1st of December 2022. The main celebrations were at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) but started with a community sensitisation walk with a band at 8:30am to 9:00am. The official celebrant was Assistant Director Dr Tom Lutalo who ably represented Prof Kaleebu Pontiano.
